2010-07-10 22:01:10
Passing on the Torch: Affection for Sichuan National Education Exchange Programme On 27th June to 1st July 2010, six S6 and three S4 students joined the exchange programme called “Passing on the Torch: Affection for Sichuan National Education Exchange Programme: Experiential Learning and Expression of Care – Tour A: History and Cultures”, organized by the Education Bureau, led by Miss Lai Ka Yan. We visited several historical sites and museums in Sichuan, e.g. Sanxingdui Museum, archaeological site of Jinsha and Sichuan Museum. After visiting these places, students are more familiarized with the ancestors of Sichuan as well as their living environment. In addition, we visited the earthquake ruins in Beichuan. It was a very valuable experience for students to learn about the disastrous destructions caused by the 512 earthquake in 2008. Apart from sightseeing, we visited Mianyang Foreign Language School and met local teachers and students there. In the welcoming session, our students sang a medley song: We are the world, Imagine and 海闊天空 while local teachers and students perform several traditional dancing and playing Chinese musical instrument. After the welcoming session, we walked around the school campus and visited the dormitory of a local student. This was a valuable opportunity for us to know more about the local education system and the learning atmosphere of local students. To conclude, students enjoyed this exchange programme very much. It provides a precious chance for both teacher and students to know more about the history and culture in Sichuan as well as enhancing our communication skills in Putonghua.
