Afterthoughts: | Mr. Chris Chiu:
The 2-day visit in Guangzhou had changed my perception on the mainland teachers who always push the children in rote learning. Teachers seemed quite welcome such a fundamental reform in the education frontline as “flipped classroom ideology” and were quite reflexive upon their classroom teaching. From the lesson we observed, by switching the learning process from the classroom to the home through the online resources, teachers could spare more time on students’ application and giving more immediate feedback to them in the daily lessons. As such, the assessment for learning can be better achieved and teacher-student interaction may then focus more on students’ improvements from practices rather than understanding the concepts only. |
Mr. Wong Chi Po:
Before this trip, I have already heard about Flipped Classroom. It is a teaching strategy that helps students doing discussion on advanced level questions in the classroom. In the trip, I observed some English lessons. Students were attentive and prepared well for the lesson. I just doubt whether teachers have taught the similar topic the day before. If not, Flipped classroom may be really useful for students. Another advantage brought by Flipped classroom that I may think of is it can save some lesson time. As students would prepare simple concepts before lesson, teachers do not need to go through the basic concepts in details in classroom. For the difficulties that teachers may face, technical problem is one thing because not all teachers know how to assist teaching by technology. Second, is about the supervision on students. How can teachers ensure or force students to watch the videos at home? The hint gave by the teaches in Guangzhou is that treat it as one of the homeworks. If students fails to do it, punish him/her just like they fail in handling in homework. It is a meaningful experience brought by the Guangzhou teachers. However, the trip would be better if I could observe Math Flippedclassroom!

Miss Crystal Fu:
