Having never been to a radio station and being the only one invited, I was nervous as well as reluctant at first. Most importantly, I had to deliver a 1-minute impromptu speech in the radio programme and my voice would be broadcasted all around Hong Kong! However, after some consideration and a lot of desire for recognition, I decided to give it a try, and to give it my all.

I am truly thankful that Ms Winnie Chow practised with me by asking me to deliver impromptu speeches about various topics beforehand. It boosted my confidence. I went from being completely unprepared to being totally ready upon arrival at the radio station. While the nervousness still stuck around, it was now or never.

The interview with the show host, Ms Alyson Hau and the guest speaker, Ms Vanessa Li was pretty smooth. I was then invited to give a minute-long impromptu speech about the benefits of using body language in presentations. That was when a fumble came in – I ran overtime! Ms Hau wisely gestured for me to wrap up my speech, saving me from a potential massive failure! It was a great experience, with all the insightful feedback given by both Ms Hau and Ms Li. Not to sound conceited, but I surely was proud to have completed such an achievement.

What were my takeaways after the entire activity and tips for public speaking? Relax and go with the flow. Always avoid being over the top, sharpen your organisation skills, and keep track of time. Time management is crucial in public speaking, as proven in my little mishap.

On a scale of 1-10, this experience got a solid 9 out of 10 from me (an honest score). It is a rare learning experience, so seize it and be the next person on a radio show for the school![/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”18571″][/vc_column][/vc_row]

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]5S Caius Cheung was invited to join The Speaker by RHTK and delivered a 1-minute impromptu speech about the benefits of using body language in presentations.
