China\u2019s first domestically built icebreaker, Xuelong 2, recently visited Hong Kong offering captivating activities during its stay. Our students had the precious opportunity to participate in two of these events, \u201cDialogue with Xuelong 2\u2019s Scientists\u201d and an onboard visit of Xuelong 2.<\/p>\n

The \u201cDialogue with Xuelong 2\u2019s Scientists\u201d session took place at the Science Museum on 10 April 2024. During this event, students engaged in conversations with scientists based at the Antarctic China Zhongshan Station. Through these dialogues, students learned about the vital role of polar regions in the global climate system and gained insights into the challenges faced during polar expeditions. Their fascination with these shared experiences and the scientists\u2019 unwavering commitment left a lasting impression.<\/p>\n

On 11 April, following the enlightening dialogue, our students boarded the Xuelong 2. They were particularly amazed at the vessel\u2019s advanced scientific research equipment and its bidirectional and 360-degree free rotation techniques. These innovations allow the icebreaker to efficiently break through ice up to 1.5 meters thick and navigate icy waters.<\/p>\n

Overall, this extraordinary experience has inspired our students to explore and contribute to a more sustainable future.<\/p>\n
