The \u2018English Practices for a High Value-added Index\u2019 sharing session initiated by the Tai Po School Heads Association was successfully held on 12th May 2017. The sharing session was jointly hosted by Law Ting Pong Secondary School and SKH Bishop Mok Sau Tseng Secondary School. Over 60 principals and teachers from 19 secondary schools in Tai Po gathered in our school to share and discuss successful English teaching and learning practices.<\/p>\n

The sharing session started in our school hall, where numerous examples of students\u2019 work were displayed for exhibition. After the opening speeches from Principal Poon, Vice-Chairperson of the Tai Po School Heads Association and principal of Ling Liang Church M H Lau Secondary School, and our principal, Ms Lancy Tam, Ms Daisy Tang, Head of English Department of SKHMST, shared the intensive and extensive reading programmes which were implemented in the junior forms to encourage students to become devoted readers. Ms Kathy Cheung, our Head of English Department, also shared the philosophy of English teaching at LTPSS. She believes that teaching English is the same as fitting jigsaw pieces together. Only when we see the whole picture can we make teaching right for the students and make learning effective for students to arrive at the two very last jigsaw pieces – solutions to problems and opportunities in the world stage.<\/p>\n

After the sharing session, principals and teachers went on a short tour to the English homerooms and the library to discover how the learning environment supports the way English is being taught and learnt. Finally, the event ended with a networking session where principals and teachers exchanged ideas on successful English teaching and learning practices at their respective schools.<\/p>\n

The sharing session provided a great opportunity for schools in the Tai Po district to learn from each other and enhance the effectiveness of students\u2019 English learning. It is crucial to continue gathering teachers to create a motivating teaching and learning environment for the benefit of our students.<\/p>\n
