Mr. Tong and Mr. Siu attended a conference in Shanghai on September 8, 2011. The title of the conference is “Learning 2.011” and was organized by a group of enthusiastic educators in Applying Technology in Education.
This is an educational conference focusing on technology and change in the classroom. It is about how we can change our classrooms to improve learning. The conference composed of cohort sessions, keynote speeches, workshops and unconference sessions. The conference cohort groups based on subject areas or other areas of interest are organized to explore how ideas, tools or techniques can help our students learn more quickly, with more depth and more retention.
Cohort Session
The keynotes are focused on the importance of connections in today’s world and how technology can effectively facilitate this connection. Among the keynotes, there were three keynotes from students. Each student gave a speech on either their own personal experience of learning with technology or their understanding of the impact of technology on education. It is great to get students involved in conferences like this as can encourage the sharing of views from another perspectives.

Between cohort sessions, there were workshops and unconference sessions. These sessions were skills or tools related to teaching. Experts within the conference can run workshops or unconference sessions on a fantastic range of topics, such as podcasting, paperless classroom, making a mobile app, wikispaces etc. The workshops and unconference sessions were often small group sized which encouraged discussions and sharing.
Sample unconference sessions
In this conference, we see educators from different areas use various IT tools and techniques to facilitate teaching and learning. In the cohort sessions, we shared and learned the experiences of how to engage student to learn. Through the use of using various technologies tools, we can engage participation and collaboration among students. These are valuable experiences to learn and to improve the e-Learning of our school.
