Merit Award in Universal Robotics Challenge Hong Kong 2025
In August 2025, S3 students Cui Bing Qi and Wong Hoi Kwan, together with S4 student Lai Cheuk Shing, took part in the Universal Robotics Challenge Hong Kong 2025. We are thrilled to share that they have received the Merit Award in the Junior Secondary Division.
The theme of this year’s invention competition is Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 11. Inspired by this, participants are required to build robots and systems that create inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable cities or communities, thereby contributing to a better world.
The students deployed three Artec Studuino:bit units as earthquake-detection stations and used a computer as a control centre to build an IoT seismic-detection system running the MQTT/Wi‑Fi communication protocol. As no MicroPython MQTT code for the Artec devices was available on Artec’s website, they adapted a public MicroPython library for the ESP32 (the MCU used in Artec Studuino:bit), which is a noteworthy technical breakthrough.
Congratulations to the team once again, and a big thank you to the teachers who supported them.
