Hey guys! I am Mr. Paul Marriott, teacher of ICT/Computer Literacy at LTPSS. Anyone that knows me shall tell you that ‘Paul Marriott’ and ‘technology’ are the perfect marriage!
Ten years ago, I acquired a BA(Hons) degree in Computer Studies at the University of Sunderland, UK. With my extensive background in computing, technology and gadgets (since the age of 8), it seemed only natural to acquire. I began as a ‘technical’ person, and thus would never have dreamed of becoming a teacher several years down the line! I do not even think my parents could envision this, either. Oh, how times have changed!
My journey as a teacher began in 2003. I started as an IT Support Officer at an international school in Hong Kong. In addition, I was also in charge of an after-school activity (ECA) where I would teach students to produce graphics and websites using a wide range of applications.
Working in a school environment helped develop my passion and desire for teaching. The idea of teaching and nurturing students with knowledge and skills to propel them towards the future really resonated within me. In addition, I wanted to move on and take-up a new challenge in my career.
Upon realising my new direction, I pursued and attained a PGDE from the University of Hong Kong in 2007. Subsequently, I went on to teach Computer Studies (and English) at a local Primary School for three years. The experience I had was tremendous, and to see and realise the effects my teaching had on students was very endearing.
And here I am today at Law Ting Pong Secondary School. At this school, I will continue to apply my desire and passion for teaching, to help shape and mould the students for tomorrow, and to showcase how learning can be fun yet meaningful! I also plan on taking ICT/Computer Literacy teaching to a new level.
As a teacher, I play a very fundamental role in students’ lives. In my classes, my students will know that they CAN achieve (irrespective of their ‘inabilities’) and they should never be afraid to take risks. I strongly believe in being an advocate for students where I am supportive and easily approachable. The ability to motivate students and boost their self-esteem is also something I believe in. That is why learning should be made fun. I am also a teacher that finds true joy in what he does, and this also reflects upon the joy I find on my students’ faces.
In my free time I like to listen to music, run, travel and edit videos. With respect to videos, my YouTube channel is situated here: www.youtube.com/pcmarriotthk.
It is a pleasure to be part of the LTPSS family. Let this be a wild and exciting journey for staff, students, parents and the entire LTPSS community.
The future is bright. Let’s grab ahold with both hands!
